
The fourth Melomanes consortium meeting was held between September 15th-19th in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Workshop: Theatrical dialogue on nanomedicine
Day 1: Monday, September 15th
The first workshop of the week was led by Frank Kupper and the Theatre company Mens in de Maak. In the workshop, the doctoral researchers participated in a group activity on theatre dialogue to engage with ethics questions about nanomedicine
Consortium Meeting
Days 2-3: Tuesday, September 16th and Wednesday, September 17th
During the second day, the project coordinator, Dr. Cécilia Ménard-Moyon, presented the progress of the project to the partners. Our DRs presented the latest updates in their individual projects in terms of conducted research, obtained results and secondments. Each presentation was followed by a short Q&A session with the audience, where the DRs and PIs discussed challenges and possible strategies for the following months of their research. With the presentations concluded on Wednesday, participants divided into three breakout groups — WP1, WP2&5, and WP3&4 — to discuss ongoing work and define next steps within their respective work packages.
Day 3: Wednesday, September 17th
In the afternoon session of the third day, Laurent Bontoux (Joint Research Centre, European Commission) and our DR Ayush Shukla (Athena Institute) organised a workshop on a Scenario Exploration System.
Workshops
Days 4-5: Tuesday, September 18th and Friday, September 19th (morning session)
A workshop on ethics of nanomaterials for therapeutic applications and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) was organised by Ineke Malsch, (EthicSchool, Utrecht, Netherlands) and DR Ayush Shukla (Athena Institute). During the workshop, DRs participated in an exercise planned on a Risk-Benefit assessment using an online screening tool to identify positive and negative ethical impacts of the dreamed outcome of the Melomanes project. DRs Jacopo Sorani (EMPA), Wilder Ruiz (Misvik), Maria Antoniou (NovaMechanics Ltd), and Ayush Shukla shared their opinions and advice on on Safe and Sustainable by Design melanoma cancer therapy.
Day 5: Friday, September 19th (afternoon session)
The fourth Melomanes consortium was concluded with a workshop on academic publishing was organised. Joan Sapin-Uribe (Customer Success Manager, Elsevier) advised our DRs on how to find a good journal relevant to their individual research projects. Later, Ilaria Carnevale (Lead Editor for Trends in Cell Biology, Cell Press) presented highlights on the editorial process, and Darren Sugrue (Publishing Ethics Expert, Elsevier) discussed ethics and misconducts in academic publishing.
