The Melomanes consortium gathered between October 23rd and 26th in Turku, Finland, marking the very first meeting among partners, supervisors and the freshly recruited doctoral researchers!
The event was kicked off by the project coordinator, Dr. Cécilia Ménard-Moyon, with an overview of the main aspects of the project and a brief introduction of the attendees. Our DRs had the opportunity to present their backgrounds and outline the first steps of their research projects. Key topics such as secondment plans, dissemination strategies and collaboration opportunities were thoroughly discussed. Khuloud Al-Jamal and Gerard Tobías-Rossel from the external advisory board offered invaluable career insights to the DRs and shared practical advice from their extensive experience in academia and research.
A multidisciplinary training event took place during the following two days in the Åbo Academi University. The school brought together Melomanes researchers and local partners to give lectures on nanomedicine, novel immunotherapies and innovative cancer treatments. For an in-depth exploration of the topics covered during the event, find more details here.
On the last day of the consortium meeting, the DRs benefited from sessions with scientists who shared their journeys transitioning from academia to entrepreneurship. Finally, a Eurodoc workshop by Dr. Pil Maria Saugmann helped young researchers reflect on PhD-acquired skills and explore diverse career opportunities.
